Sulia Bogitini could not contain her excitement as she heads to her first ever Coca-Cola Games outing.

The Year 10 student of Tailevu North College was surprised when her name was called out as the winner of the junior girls discus throw.

“When I saw the other girls, I felt intimidated because they’re bigger than me,” Bogitini said.

Bogitini is originally from Nakobo Village in Cakaudrove but grew up at her mother’s village in Naivuruvuru, Verata in Tailevu.

“I did not expect to win but when they called out my name I was surprised and happy at the same time. I dedicate this gold medal win to my namesake in America and to my mother,” she added.

The Fiji Finals will be a totally different envoy and Bogitini said she has to put in twice the work to be physically and mentally ready come May 2-4.

St Vincent College duo Unaisi Quai-Hoi and Sereima Turaga settled for silver and bronze respectively.

Quai-Hoi threw a distance of of 21.90m and Tauraga with a throw of 20.98m.
