The Malaysian High Commission has presented $7000 worth of gift vouchers to the students of the Makoi Women’s Vocational Centre.

The event, organised by the Fiji Muslim League, was a gesture of generosity and assistance to communities by bringing the joy of Eid to underprivileged families after a month of fasting.

Malaysian Ambassador Nor Azam Mohd Idrus said the gift vouchers were in line with his government’s commitment to uplift communities in need.

“This voucher contribution that eases the burden of the economically challenged students at the Makoi Women’s Vocational Training Centre is also a small token of the High Commission’s dedication to our social responsibilities,” Mr Idrus said.

The league’s executive education officer, Muhammed Shamim Ali, said the program at the vocational centre provided opportunities to women, in particular underprivileged ones, to acquire skills training and make a living.

By offering training programs in culinary and pastry arts, fashion and design, as well as aged care and community care, the centre equips participants with valuable skills that are in demand in today’s job market.
