Being selected to don the jumper at the prestigious HSBC Hong Kong 7s tournament this weekend is the pinnacle of Rubeni Kabu’s rugby career.

“The Hong Kong 7s is the biggest tournament of the series, and to be named in the final squad is a huge honor,” the Tailevu man said.

Kabu was named in Kolinisau’s side after missing the last three legs of the series under the previous head coach, Ben Gollings.

“I am happy to be back, and to be presented with this opportunity to play at Hong Kong is a blessing that I will not take for granted.”

Getting to play alongside some of the 7s greats like Vatemo Ravouvou, Sevuloni Mocenacagi, and Josua Vakurunabili is a dream come true for Kabu.

“I’ve always watched these players play on television and to be able to rub shoulders with them is a dream come true for me.”

Looking to the tournament this weekend, Kabu vows to give his best as the side looks to win their first tournament of the season.

“I promise to give my best if I’m selected to play. I cannot wait to jump on the field and represent my country.

“Getting to play with players like Ravouvou and Mocenacagi, some of the giants in 7s, is something I’ve always dreamed of and I will be learning a lot from them when we share the field in Hong Kong this weekend.”

The side plays Australia at 9.30pm on Friday for their opening pool match before they take on Canada at 12.33am on Saturday.

They will then play their final pool match against France at 5.43pm on Saturday before their fate for the next round will be determined.
