Some homes along the Suva- Nausori corridor have started receiving water, but just as many, or more, were still without this need yesterday.
Residents of St Philomena Children’s Home in Suva said they had been relying on Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) and private water trucks for a week.
Home manager Mary Hanna said providing for 22 children without access to clean water had been a challenge.
“Our water has been off since the first time it got cut on Tuesday,” she said.
“We have 22 children, and this is hard because we have babies and older ages, but I’m glad that WAF came today (yesterday) to fill our water tank.
“Since the water stopped that day, we stopped the washing, and we have a shower once a day. Whenever there is rain, we go and collect water for the toilets.”
She adds, although the experience was rough, the children have learnt to collect rainwater and use it wisely. Howell Rd resident Jiojivini Saunokonoko shared her experience with low water pressure and inconvenient water truck visits.
She said water supply was restored last week but has not returned to normal pressure.
“The water truck has come twice since last week, but once it came at 3am when we were still sleeping,” Ms Saunokonoko said.
“I live up the road and I have to go down to wash our clothes because the water pressure is really low.”
Meanwhile, WAF in a statement stated they had made significant progress restoring water supply to areas affected by recent disruptions.
WAF said water carting teams would continue to deliver water to affected areas.
