Vashist Muni College U17 rugby league team created history yesterday by securing a spot in the quarter-finals after a hard-fought victory against John Wesley College at Gospel High School grounds.

Despite being a school more recognised for soccer, the team has been making waves in the Fiji secondary school rugby league competition.

Coach Jeke Dakuiwai commended the boys for their dedication and teamwork, attributing their success to their hard work and divine intervention.

The game against John Wesley College was intense, with the team managing to secure a narrow 8-6 win in the last minute.

“The game was tough especially going up against one of the giant schools known in the rugby league arena,” Dakuiwai said.

“We came out victorious, it was through the Almighty and the big effort from the boys.

“We also need to improve our ball handling and tackling skills as we prepare for the quarter-finals.

“This achievement is not only significant for the players but also for the school as it marks a milestone in our rugby journey.”

Dakuiwai extended his gratitude to the school administration, principal, vice-principal, and all supporters for their unwavering support as they head into the quarter-finals.
