The Japan Sevens Academy team is thoroughly enjoying their rugby experience in Fiji, having already participated in three local Fiji Bitter Series tournaments and eagerly gearing up for their fourth.

The side is the sole international team competing in the 3rd Fiji Bitter Tabadamu 7s which starts today at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nauosori.

Coach Kensuke Shimogawa acknowledged the unique rugby style in Fiji, highlighting the high calibre of competition present.

This upcoming tournament will mark their fourth visit to Fiji, with their previous participation in the Coral Coast 7s proving to be a significant and beneficial experience for the team.

“Our last competition was at the Coral Coast 7s, it was really an amazing experience for the boys as most of the players were new,” said Shimogama.

“We have brought also new players for this tournament, and also their first time coming to Fiji.

“Most of them are university students under the age of 22, the team is excited to partake in top-tier rugby action and further enhance their skills.”

With Japan currently in winter, they are delighted to embrace the warm weather in Fiji and are well-prepared and in excellent physical condition.
