Crowds gathered along the main streets of Suva yesterday to witness the first changing of guard ceremony for 2024.
Children stared curiously to watch members of the Fiji Police Force (FPF) and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) march through Suva City.
According to the RFMF, the change of guard tradition occurs every end of the month whereby both guards are thoroughly trained to shoulder the vital task of maintaining ceremonial security at the presidential premises.
The FPF band led the march, from the Suva Flea Market along Queen Elizabeth Drive toward the State House, the site of the formal handover.
After successfully completing their guard duty for the month, the RFMF handed over the ceremonial guards role at the front gate of the State House to the Fiji Police Force.
The guards alternate between the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and the Fiji Police Force.
