We do not want to be seen as anti-development or anti-business, says acting director for the Department of Environment, Senimili Baleicakau.

She said the Department of Environment was “here to help businesses grow.”

“The department has now shifted its focus towards improving its customer service delivery and will continually endeavour to process applications within the legislated requirements and timeframe,” Ms Baleicakau said.

“We request all businesses to get in touch with us for advice on regulatory requirements, permit requirements, discharge and emission standards.”

“Our aim is to assist businesses grow, the department is here to assist businesses comply with the environmental legislation.”

“The department would also like to see the economy grow and the only way we can do this is to collaborate with businesses.”

The Department of Environment will be holding a roundtable consultation in Nadi today.
