FIJI Cricket women’s head coach Joeli Mateyawa says he is impressed with the performance of national reps during the final of the Suva Women’s T20 Cricket competition in Albert Park on Saturday.

Eight members of Mataya’s side to the 2024 Women’s T20 Pacific Cup in New Zealand later this year competed in the final between Sarafui and eventual winners Nausori Majidez.

“We have eight of our players who were competing in the final, and I am happy with their performance as they have shown development and growth in their style of play,” Mateyawa said.

He said he was also impressed with a handful of other players and would be looking to reel in a few to his side.

“I also spotted some outstanding players during the final and we will be looking to get some of these players into our national side for the 2024 Women’s T20 Pacific Cup.”

With the Pacific Cup to be held in July, Mateyawa said his side had been undergoing preparations since late last year.

“The team has already been training since late last year, but we are still keeping our eyes open for new talents as we still have a few more local tournaments before the Pacific Cup gets started.”

Meanwhile, the 2023/24 Suva Women’s T20 League concluded with an exciting final between Sarafui Sinas and Nausori Majidez.

Sarafui Sinas, the runner-up from the previous season, aimed to improve their standing but Nausori Majidez had other plans for the final match, winning by 30 runs.

Sarafui Sinas won the toss and opted to field first, sending Majidez to bat.

Nausori Majidez batted and scored 110 runs with the fall of 7 wickets.

Sarafui Sinas then batted in the second innings and scored 80 runs with the fall of 9 wickets.

Black Ducks took third place while Veiyasana Stars finished in fourth.
