Small business operators were reminded by Commissioner Northern Uraia Rainima of the vital role they play in building the national economy.

He told a Labasa workshop facilitated by the Fiji Arts Council and the Trade Ministry that culture and creative industries were areas with lots of potential.

“Creativity without sound business skills and knowledge can be disastrous, so if you want to succeed and establish yourself as a cultural producer, then we encourage and urge you to take a step further to register your business,” he said.

“Your talents and creativity have the earning capacity to put food on the table, send children to school, and meet other obligations.”

Mr Rainima said with the change in administration, the North would experience a boost in the local economy as Savusavu was earmarked to adopt blue-economy principles.

He urged the participants to make good use of the opportunity and assistance provided by the Government.
