Etonia Waqa, who signed with the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua for the upcoming Super Rugby Pacific season, says he is looking forward to be playing in front of his family and friends.
The former Fiji under-20 lock says he is excited for the opportunities which lay ahead of him.
“I moved to New Zealand in 2016 and it is great to be back home amidst family and friends,” Waqa said.
The 24-year-old, who can play at lock and flanker, says one of the major objectives of his is to stay injury free and gain more game time.
“I played with some of the Drua boys during the secondary schools rugby competition.
“I also want to add on some weight as well. “It was not easy being away from my family but I am happy with what I have achieved so far.”
Waqa represented the Drua in six matches last season after being called as an injury replacement.
He previously played for the Bay of Plenty Steamers in the Mitre 10 Cup competition in New Zealand.
The Fijian Drua will play the Blues on February 24 in their first match of the 2024 Super Rugby Pacific.
