The Damodar Group invested $15 million in its newest cinema in Labasa.
Damodar Group’s chief executive officer Div Damodar said the cinema created 50 new jobs and would indirectly create more, through related services.
The cinemas would not be used only for films but events such as live broadcasts.
“We have put in a lot of effort and investment into this,” he said.
“There’s a lot of new technology and services. As you walk around the complex you will be able to see that.”
He said the company had raised the bar for cinemas in the country by incorporating cutting-edge technologies into the three cinemas at its Damodar City Labasa Centre.
“Sound and technology emblems around the place,” he said.
“We wanted to bring in a true experience for the people of Vanua Levu.”
Over time, new features would be installed, he said.
“What Labasa has is what the latest cinematic technology around the world has,” Mr Damodar said.
“We had a team from Australia that came in to do the sound engineering.”
Two of three cinemas opened yesterday to screen the latest from Hollywood and Bollywood.
