The Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation(FCEF) has welcomed the new employer connect portal launched last week by the Tertiary Scholarships and Loan Services (TSLS).
The portal is designed to bridge the gap between graduates and employers by allowing graduates to create online resumes while employers could post job vacancies.
FCEF Human Resources Council chair Banuve Yalimaiwai said the initiative would not only create opportunities for graduates and students, it would also make talent search much easier and faster.
“As a member of the FCEF HR Council and a human resources management practitioner, I’m sure most of the employers present here today will also agree that one of our present issues or challenge right now is talent search, talent acquisition and retention,” Mr Yalimaiwai said.
“The recruitment process can be a strenuous and time-consuming exercise as we sift through hundreds of applications to find those that meet the requirements and those that may be shortlisted.
“Apart from the time and effort spent on searching for talent, there can also be an impact on productivity and the stress it creates as we redistribute the workload due to a vacancy.
“All those challenges contribute to the ever-increasing cost to business of talent search and acquisition.”
Mr Yalimaiwai said employers can now use the portal to search for registered applicants in specific fields of study, with the streamlined process now enabling them to find the right fit for their business.
The portal was designed by TSLS manager Information and Communications Technology Transformation Akshay Deo, and four final year Bachelor of Software Engineering students from the University of the South Pacific (USP).
