The Fiji Airways Sevens Team is struggling to win a leg of the HSBC World Sevens Series.

Highlighting this, the Fiji Bitter 7s series co-sponsor Joe Rodan said the national sevens had not yet won a leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series.

With their current performance, he said the Fiji Airways Fiji Sevens team may not be able to win a gold at the Paris Olympics next year.

To address this, he said the Fiji Airways Fiji Sevens team should have selectors present at every tournaments of the Fiji Bitter series.

“The Fiji Airways Fiji Sevens team started off this year’s HSBC World Sevens series with a lose.

“This type of tournament helps us to identify potential players who can represent the national side.

“Only thing that I am disappointed about is that we didn’t have any selectors from Fiji Rugby Union to come out here.

“I think that’s what they need to do, to come out and see we have the top players.”

A lot of the Fiji Airways Fiji Sevens players, he said, were selected to represent the national side while playing for local rugby clubs at a Fiji Bitter series.

“With their performance right now the Fiji Airways Fiji Sevens team needed to look at new players,” he said.

He said Fijians do not support losses thus the drop of viewership of the HSBC World Sevens Series on television.

“When we start to win the tournament then we will start watching the HSBC Sevens World Series,” he said.

“It’s important for the Fiji Airways Fiji Sevens team to start winning and for them to win they need to come in tournaments like this and start to select players from there.”

He said there were a lot of good sevens rugby players playing at the Fiji Bitter Savusavu Sevens.
