The Fijiana side finished off its Dubai 7s campaign on a winning note defeating Ireland 24-19 after extra-time to claim fifth spot.
Tied 19-all at fulltime, Ilisapeci Delaiwau scored the winning four minutes into the first spell of extra-time.
Tries from Reapi Ulunisau and Ana Maria Naimasi saw the Fijiana leading 14-12 at halftime.
Naimasi added a second after halftime as Fiji was reduced to six players when Laisani Moceisawana was sin-binned for foul play.
Fijiana had earlier suffered a disappointing 38-14 defeat to France in the cup quarterfinal.
France scored three tries on either side of halftime while Fiji’s tries came from Adi Vani Buleki and a penalty try awarded to Fiji in the dying moments.
Moceisawana was also sin-binned for foul play against France.
Meanwhile, Australia broke New Zealand’s dominance in the series after a nail-biting 26-19 win in the women’s final to claim their fourth straight Dubai 7s title.
The Australians led 14-12 at the break. France finished third defeating Canada 26-5 in the bronze medal final.
Earlier in the semi-finals, Australia defeated France 21-14 while New Zealand edged Canada 21-19.
