Fiji Tennis captain and coach William O’Connell says he is happy with his team’s performance so far at the Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands.

O’Connell said though the temperature was much hotter compared with Fiji’s, his side was able to deliver on the court.

“Today we had the men’s and women’s singles and doubles,” he said.

“Here, we have our men’s and women’s team take on Solomon Islands and Tahiti.

“The weather here is quite different to Fiji, but our players were able to come our and deliver what was expected of them on the court.”

O’Connell said their aim was to reach the semi-finals, where they hoped to win a medal by the end of the tournament.

Fiji’s first men’s singles saw Storm Cornish making his debut against Solomon Islands winning the last two sets, 4-2 and 4-2.

The second men’s single match featured Raynal Singh who defeated Solomon Islands 5-3, 5-3 in the last two sets.

In the women’s singles Grace Dabelevu managed to beat her opponent from Tahiti while Tarani Kamoe lost her opening match.
