Diwali is a time for reflection, says Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Sashi Kiran. As Fijians celebrate the annual Festival of Lights, Ms Kiran believes that this is the time to reflect on how we treat our fellow human beings.

“Once we protect and look after our goddesses in the house, our daughters, our mothers they will bring us prosperity forever,” she said.

Ms Kiran said the symbolic victory of light over darkness should also be reflected in people’s lives.

“It is very easy for people to point a finger at someone and call out their flaws and their mistakes, but we need to look at ourselves first before we criticise someone else.

“So, this is a very important time for self-improvement and also acknowledges all of the beautiful things that we have been blessed with.

“Lord Rama sacrificed so much for the world to be a better place so we can take something from that.”

The Assistant Minister for Women also urged Fijians to be safe during their celebrations and to ensure the safety of their loved ones especially children.
