iTaukei Affairs Minister Ifereimi Vasu has stressed the need for the protection of natural resources within provinces for the benefit of future generations.
He said in order for Fiji and Fijians to prosper, we needed to take ownership of our resources and protect them because they would benefit not only us, but future generations as well.
“If we want Fiji to be a great place to live in the future, we must take ownership and be responsible from today,” he said.
“Often we become shortsighted and do things to survive just for today. We need to change that and keep an eye in the future especially for the benefit of our future generations.”
Mr Vasu said he recently noted some villages breaking the no fishing policies or curfew in order to meet village obligations.
He stressed the need for village elders to ensure these provisions set by the province were followed as they were for the collective good of all.
“Let us not stop in our efforts to advocate for the protection of our resources, let’s keep on talking about it so that the more we talk about it, the more awareness we create.”
