HLB Mann Suva reinstated its dominance in district futsal yesterday claiming their fifth Extra Supermarket Futsal Inter-District title.
The Whites thrashed Nadi 6-2 in the final at the Vodafone Arena in Suva yesterday.
The win wiped away the hurt of their 2022 IDC loss to Ba in the final. Suva toppled the Men in Black 3-2 in the semi-finals earlier yesterday.
The Capital City side was dominant from the onset with two clinical goals to Krishneel Singh and Suraj Chand as they led 2-0 at the breather.
A momentum change in the second half made things look easy for Suva as they netted four more goals through Sunny Deol, Deepal Sigh and a double to Aman Naidu. Nadi found the inspiration they needed in the later stages of the match with a double to Mohammed Shalmeen with less than ten minutes on the clock.
However, time wasn’t on their side as Suva held held firm in defence to take the top honors. Suva coach Vishal Nadan said they came with only one goal in mind.
“I’m completely elated, very proud of the performance of the boys. We came with a mission and that was to take back what’s rightfully ours and we did that.
“We trained for months because we knew the level of competition in the IDC has improved so for other teams if they want to take the title they have to thoroughly prepare and make sacrifices.
“We dedicate this win to our families who have been there from day one. They’ve been supporting us even during late nights while we’re doing our trainings.”
Suva goalkeeper Rajneel Singh was awarded the Golden Glove and Rajneel Singh the Golden Ball which was the award given to the best player of the tournament. Their women created history winning the inaugural Women’s IDC title after beating Nasinu 3-2.
