The Fiji Bulikula side returned from Papua New Guinea earlier this week with a better understanding of the sport, says coach Josaia Dakuitoga.
Dakuitoga said despite the 26-12 loss against Samoa in the Pacific Championships, the Fiji Bulikula had impressed in many ways.
“The result was not the focus, but it was all about giving exposure to the girls. There were many who made their debut and now they know what international rugby league is like,” Dakuitoga said.
He said the players would stay in touch and prepare for next year’s Women’s Rugby League World Cup Qualifiers.
“We have a big year coming up next year. We want to play at our first world cup for the women, so we need to keep this team together. They (the players) have shown their potential, and we just have to work on them individually now,” the coach added.
Fourteen Australia-based players and seven players from Fiji were part of the Bulikula squad at the Pacific Championships this year.
