They came as medical students on attachment at the Labasa Hospital and were crowned winners of the Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North on Saturday night.
The three lab technicians, who are students of the Fiji School of Medicine, are Vasiti Navurai, Miss Apco Paintings who was crowned the carnival queen, Grace Tauyavuca, Miss Labasa Divisional Hospital, who was first runner-up while Daiana Moceica, Miss Northern Civil Service, was second runner-up to the crown and first runner-up to the charity crown.
For Vasiti, who hails from Bukuya, Ba, the crown meant a great achievement as she never dreamt of participating in the carnival since her presence in Labasa was for work.
“But I thank God for opening new opportunities and I dedicate this crown to my sponsor, parents, sisters and my grandmother in Australia and to all those who helped me throughout the week,” she said.
“We forged new friendships, met new people and contributed towards charity plans to benefit the people of Vanua Levu and we are glad to have been part of this.”
Vodafone chief executive Elenoa Biukoto said the event has been a great success which has lived up to its name over the years.

Miss Fiji Sugar Corporation, Nandani Sami, was crowned Miss Charity. For the Kings Category, Mr Valuefone Pte Ltd Fiji Roshneel Chand was crowned King, while Mr Tanoa Electrical Works Jacob Saqusaqu was the first runner-up. Mr Service Clubs of Labasa, Vilimone Kolivuso, was Mr Personality.
