Topline successfully defended the Lautoka Rugby Union’s Namoko Shield Challenge after beating Koroipita 19-6 at Churchill Park in Lautoka yesterday.
It was the explosive backline that ran the show for Topline as they scored three tries to Koroipita’s two penalty kicks on the scoreboard.
Topline manager Ame Naivalu said this was their second defence as they had also earlier defeated Navutu. “We defeated Dralulu, who were the holders of the shield.
There are two more games left and we aim to keep the shield this season.
“The boys have worked hard and put in their sacrifices to keep the defence on track and we are very proud of their performance here today(yesterday).”
He said it was a team effort as player put in the hard yards throughout the 80 minutes.
“The boys executed what was in game plan which got us the win. Discipline let us down as we copped three yellow cards but we will re-group and prepare for our next defence.”
Koroipita manager Ratu Peni Rasovasova acknowledged the contribution of his players despite the loss.
“For most of them, it is the first time playing at Churchill Park as throughout the season, we played at the Nadovu Park.
“We congratulate the Topline team for a good performance,” said Rasovasova.
