THE Fijiana 15s development side had a good hit-out against the Oceania Women’s Rugby Combined side winning 12-10 in a closely contested encounter.
While the result did not matter to both teams, it was all about trying their players.
Fijiana forwards coach Kele Leawere said it was a good hit-out for his side.
“The girls have played really well. Getting together a team from the cream of the Marama and Ranadi competition and a lot of work has been done won them. We can now say we have depth in the Fijiana team,” Leawere said.
“We wanted to see how the girls can adapt from provincial level, it’s a step up playing against the best from Tonga, Samoa and Papua New Guinea,” the former national lock added.
Meanwhile, Oceania Rugby general manager Frank Puletua thanked everyone who made yesterday’s match possible.
“We have had the benefit of a lot of good people from World Rugby and across the game to come and assist the girls, putting them through some stringent programs over the last few weeks,” Puletua said.
The Fijiana side will tour Japan for a two-match Test series in a fortnight’s time.
