While many in the Central and Eastern divisions hope for sunny weather, a farmer in Naitasiri is grateful for the rain.

Maciu Ragesa said the period of rain over the past few weeks had helped in the growth of his produce.

“I am grateful for the rain, it has really helped in the growth of my vegetables,” he said.

Mr Ragesa said he normally drew water from a nearby creek to irrigate his farm, but with the abundant rainfall recently, nature had been doing most of the work.

The 36-year-old farmer said he would need to make proper drains to allow access water to drain away.

Mr Ragesa said the rain had also helped him in terms of weeding and clearing overgrown areas.

His farm is 100 per cent organic and he’s confident the access water won’t have a negative impact on the ecosystem.
