Fiji’s Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources has refused to extend the development lease for Tian Lun Investments Pte Ltd – the company with a State land and State tiri land lease for a proposed project along Queen Elizabeth Drive in Suva.

Minister Filimoni Vosarogo wrote to the legal representatives of the company stating the ministry’s decision not to further extend the company’s lease term.

In the letter, Mr Vosarogo said the decision was based on a few grounds, in particular the breach of conditions of the lease by failing to honour special lease conditions as listed:

i) Obtain sub-divisional approval of the scheme plan with six months of the date of issue of this development lease;

ii) Obtain approval of the engineering plan within nine months of the date of the issue of this development lease;

iii) To commence site and construction works and all other necessary works within 12 months of the date of the issue of this development lease; and

iv) The development plans are to be submitted to the lessor and Suva City Council for prior approval before the commencement of any work.

Mr Vosarogo said those conditions were being highlighted as a reminder to all present development leases for State Land that any such breaches would face a similar fate.
