Swire Shipping Fijian Drua chief executive officer Mark Evans believes the Drua has come a long way since their inclusion in the Super Rugby competition.
“To be able to reach the stage where we have a chance into the quarter-finals was probably an aim for us internally,” he said.
“We thought to get to the finals, we would need to get like five or six wins.
“But we are still happy we where we have come so far. But I still believe we could have done much better than we wished.”
As they prepare to take on the Reds today at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, a lot of pressure is placed on the team to have a shot at making it to the quarterfinals.
“So, whether or not we win this game, we can’t judge the season just by one game, you can’t do that.”
He also mentioned that this was all part of the development of the team that was new to a highly competitive tournament.
“When we started a lot of people didn’t think we would ever have a shot at making it to the finals. And after seeing our performances and where we are right now, they say we should be in the finals (top eight).”
Evans said the people of Fiji should be proud of how far the Fijian Drua have come so far, competing with some of the best rugby union teams in the world.
