Swire Shipping Fijian Drua fans will not get a chance to see their team play at home, for at least the next nine months, after their last regular season match against the Reds in the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific this Saturday.
While the team is aiming for a spot in the playoffs, Fijian Drua CEO Mark Evans said fans would not want to miss their team in action at home for the last time this season.
“The way the season is structured, this is the last time for the fans to see the Drua until late February, 2024,” Evans said.
“Whatever happens this weekend, win, lose or draw, there will not be another home game for the Drua in Fiji in 2023.”
Evans added the home crowd may have a hand in the result, as the Drua aims to make it five wins from six home games in Fiji this season.
“This is an opportunity to extend our home record further. I think five wins out of six at home in Super Rugby is a good base and that is part of our motivation.”
The Drua CEO said there was so much at stake this weekend and a record crowd was expected at the HFC Bank Stadium.
“It is always interesting when any team is in contention to qualify for something.
“With our team in that position this week, in such a competitive competition, a lot of fans will say, last game, lots at stake, the home record on the line.
“It is really an exciting combination for our fans, so we are expecting an even bigger crowd in Suva to date.”
The Drua vs Reds match kicks off at 4.35pm.
