As the outsourcing industry grows its contributions to the national economy, the backs the industry rests on must be strengthened.
Having undergone six months of training, 10 local employees of outsourcing agencies have received training and certification to boost their skills.
The participants were invited to a concluding workshop and awarded their certificates in an event hosted by Outsource Fiji on Thursday in Suva.
“It is an honour to be at the conclusion of the first industry training course for Fijian contact centre operations specialists,” said New Zealand’s Trade Commissioner to the Pacific, David Dewar.
He added that this being a highly skilled and competitive industry, “contact centre specialists need to be experts in interpersonal communication, systems organisation and managing complex issues for multiple clients, many of whom are operating at the cutting edge of global commerce”.
BPO council member and general manager of Mindpearl Fiji Erik van Duivenbode said: “This is an important milestone for us, for Outsource Fiji.”
“We’ve had other courses that we’ve started up and all those were based on people starting out in the industry.
“This is the first of its kind for us, which is a course for people already employed within the industry,” he said, highlighting the importance of industry growth from within.
The course was run by Skills Consulting Group (SCG) and supported by the Australian Government Market Development Facility.
Graduates received their New Zealand SCG certificates and digital badges to mark their newly reinforced skills.
