Governance underpins everything; it’s the foundation of everything we’re trying to do, if we don’t get it right, we will not get anything right.
Fiscal Review Committee chairperson Richard Naidu said this while addressing participants at the National Economic Summit at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva today.
Mr Naidu who spoke on law and order, government entities and external trade highlighted the importance of rule of law institutions to economic confidence.
“It’s important for social cohesion, we are focused on the economy at this summit and its about confidence,” Mr Naidu.
He said they respectfully made a few demands to parliamentarians and one of which is building consensus.
“We want the parliamentary process to work, we want parliament to build consensus.
“We have to build consensus beyond four-year electoral terms for big inter-generational issues. We can’t afford policies chopping and changing when government’s change.”
