Vunibola eyes top league

Senimolasi Vunibola has set his dream of one day playing rugby league a the highest level so he can earn a living and take care of his aging parents.

Th 19-year-old student of Naitasiri Secondary School will take a step closer to making the dream a reality when he runs out for his Naitasiri Secondary School Warriors side against the RKS Eeels in the under-19 final of the South East Zone Fiji Secondary School Rugby League Vodafone Trophy final today.

“I hope to one day play rugby league in a overseas club, so I can earn money and take care of my parents who are getting old,” the 19-year-old Nakorosule villager in Naitasiri said.

“I just want to thank my parents and my family for always supporting my dream to play rugby the past few years.

“And one day I hope to play professional rugby so I can repay them for all they have done for me and my siblings.”

Playing at first five-eight, Vunibola says he always aims to be a role model to his teammates whenever they are on the field.

“Being captain is not that easy, you have to be the one to lead the team and show good morals at all times.

“Even in a very heated match, you have to be the one to manage your players and keep them focused on the goal.”

Vunibola thanked all their supporters, parents and teachers for being with them throughout the competition.

“Just a big vinaka vakalevu to everyone to help us get to where we are today. We will try our best to make you proud.”

Fiji Secondary School Rugby League media office, Laisiasa Corerega urged fans and supporters to turn up in numbers and cheer for their teams as they battled it out in the finals.

“Come and show your support for the teams while they try to make their schools proud,” he said.

In the U15 final, the Lelean Bati face the QVS Knights while the MGM Dragons face the Nasinu Panthers in the U17 grade. Matches will be held at St Marcellin Primary School grounds in Vatuwaqa, Suva.

Meanwhile, the finals for the Western Division zone will be held at Garvey Park in Tavua today.
