Lautoka City Council chief executive officer Mohammed Anees Khan is the highest paid municipal CEO in Fiji, collecting a salary of $140,000.
This, according to data presented to Parliament by Local Government Minister Maciu Katamotu Nalumisa this week.
Mr Nalumisa said this in response to a written question from Assistant Minister for Home Affairs Ratu Rakuita Vakalalabure who had asked for the minister to inform Parliament of the pay and other entitlements of councillors, special administrators and senior executives of municipal councils for the period January, 2007 to December 23, 2022.
Mr Nalumisa said Mr Khan was on a salary of $140,000 after being appointed to the job in March 2020.
His predecessors were on a salary range of between $47,000-$53,000 between 2007 and 2019. Mr Khan was also entitled to claim for vehicle, telephone, cell phone and internet usage.
Mr Nalumisa said Suva City Council CEO Azam Khan was on a salary of $99,000.
His salary in 2021 was $94,000. In contrast, SCC chief executive officer between 2014-2020 received $104,000. He said the CEO between 2007-2013 was on a salary of $78,000.
Mr Nalumisa said the Nadi Town Council was paying its present acting CEO, Muni Reddy, $84,000.
The CEO’s salary in 2007 was $40,000 and $70,000 in 2016. He said the present acting CEO of Labasa Town Council Faiz Ali was on a salary of $73,000.
In 2007, the council CEO was getting $22,000 and $33,000 in 2018.
Nasinu Town Council CEO Anurashika Bari is presently on a salary of $72,000.
The CEO’s salary between 2011-2016 was between $40,000 to $42,000.
Mr Nalumisa said Ba Town Council CEO Priya Singh was presently getting $57,000.
The previous CEO in 2020 received $40,000. He said the Tavua/Rakiraki Town Council CEO Sailosi Sowane was presently getting $57,000, CEO at the Nausori Town Council was on $53,000 while the CEO at Levuka was receiving $50,000.
The Sigatoka Town Council CEO was presently receiving $48,000 while the Savusavu Town Council CEO was on $46,000 and the Lami Town Council CEO was on $45,000.
