Speaker of Parliament Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu says Government exists to serve all Fijians and is not here to be served.
Speaking at a traditional vasenuqanuqa ceremony at his chiefly village of Somosomo on Taveuni Island, Ratu Naiqama said he was no stranger to politics because his family had always been involved in national leadership for many years.
“I thank the Almighty God for His blessings on each and every one of us.
“We live a life to serve and we will do so till the very end.”
Ratu Naiqama said Cakaudrove had created history in that for the first time, seven Government Ministers and Assistant Ministers had been appointed from the province.
“The province has set a milestone and never in the history of our democracy has seven sons of Cakaudrove served in Government at the same time under one banner.”
He thanked the vanua of Cakaudrove for recognising and celebrating the seven in Government.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who was also at the celebration, echoed his sentiments.
“We are here as your Government to serve you and as the Tui Cakau has said, we will do so till the very end,” Mr Rabuka said.
The seven Cakaudrove parliamentarians are: Ratu Naiqama, PM Mr Rabuka, Lands and Mineral Resources Minister Filimoni Vosarogo, Health and Medical Services Minister Dr Atonio Lalabalavu, Assistant Home Affairs Minister Ratu Rakuita Vakalalabure, Assistant Rural, Maritime Development and Disaster Management Minister Jovesa Vocea, and Assistant Education Minister Iliesa Vanawalu.
Ioane Naivalurua, who is also from Cakaudrove, is an Opposition parliamentarian.
