VTBop Music managing director Tikiko Korocowiri believes that VT1S has the potential to produce a Grammy award winning artist.
“We truly believe that one of our artists will be on the Grammy stage and receive a Grammy,” Mr Korocowiri said during the launch of their first-ever partnership with the Reproductive and Family Health Association of Fiji (RFHAF) yesterday.
A veteran in the local radio industry with more than 15 years’ experience, Mr Korocowiri is of the view that to break barriers in the international music scene, one must ‘dream big’.
“It’s a lofty goal. A Grammy. We know. But we believe you have to dream big if you want to take Fiji music to the world,” he said with conviction.
To go along with their ambitious goal of winning a Grammy is a strong focus on building a strong infrastructure behind the artists.
“We have a team of writers who are onboard. Tropic Thunda who is our producer. That’s one big difference for us.
“We are really intentional about organising to create a support network behind these artists so that when we push them out, they are not alone. They have a team that is working behind them.”
The music label has only been around for a year and has achieved a lot in the short period.
“In VTBop Music, we look at ourselves as an export business. We bring in young local talent that’s unheard off. We put them through the funnel that is VTBop Music and placing them overseas,” Mr Korocowiri explains.
Last year, the music label was able to send two of their artists, Billy T and Ratu, on tour and there are more planned tours moving forward.
“The whole existence of VTBop music is to export Fiji music to the world.
“We have bookings within the region from May all the way till August.
“We have artists that will be flying around the region to perform in Melanesian countries.
“PNG, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu has just signed on and we have a potential show in Samoa,” Mr Korocowiri said.
But the opportunities don’t end there for VT1S, with the Australia and New Zealand markets opening in July and August later this year.
VT1S will be headlining the Fiji Fringe Festival on March 4.
