The Nawi Island Integrated Resort in Savusavu which is designed and built to high environmental standards is expected to boost economic opportunities in the Hidden Paradise town once completed.

Assistant Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister Sakiusa Tubuna visited the multi-million-dollar investment last week where he was briefed on the progress of work on the project.

While briefing Mr Tubuna, company director Melvin Chand said work was well underway on Nawi Island and they were working to ensure they completed the project within the expected timeline.

He said as part of their environment sustainable practices, they aimed to plant 100,000 mangrove plants on the island.

Mr Chand said this mangrove planting program started in November last year and that 11 more hectares of land had been reserved for the same planting initiative.

He also took the opportunity to highlight some issues relating to Government assistance and facilitation towards the project.

Mr Tubuna said the Government was here to create an enabling environment for everyone, including partnership with the private sector.

He thanked the Nawi Island Integrated Resort staff for the opportunity to tour the project site, adding Government would work with them.

Nawi Island is presently being developed into an international superyacht marina with luxury freehold residences, a private yacht club and a world-class spa and resort, among others.
