Lal fights for Fiji title

FORMER national champion Suman Lal is among the favorites to win the Fiji International Open Snooker tournament this weekend.

And he will be among the five overseas competitors in the Rattan Investments-sponsored competition.

Lal migrated to New Zealand two years ago and was in the country for a business deal when he heard about the tournament.

“I was not here to compete, I was here on business but then I heard the Fiji International Open was this weekend so I thought I would compete,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sigatoka-based competition sponsors have announced they would sign on to support the event for two more years.

Rattan Investments owner Krishna Rattan Bhan said their deal with the Southern BilliardS and Snooker Association was for three years.

“I am sponsoring this tournament for three years in the name of my father, the Late Mr Rattan who was a pioneer businessman in Sigatoka,” he said.

A total of 50 players are competing in the tournament which started yesterday at three venues — Fiji Club, Defence Club and MerchantS Club in Suva.
