Bill Chester is 77 years old and this week he was at the Fiji Bati team camp in Hull collecting autographs from the players.

The former council worker has been collecting autographs from rugby league players for the past 12 years as a hobby to keep him busy.

“I was just doing nothing and decided to do this as a hobby 12 years ago.

“I retired and wanted something to do. So I decided to collect autographs,” said Chester.

“I’ve visited teams from Samoa, Wales, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Jamaica, Greece, France, and now Fiji.”

He said he had met some famous rugby league players on other tours.

“I’ve got so many autographs. I need two more from the Fijian boys – and now I’ve got to pronounce their names to you!

“They’ve all got beards and they’re difficult to recognise.” Chester says the autographs are collected autographs, filed, and kept for safekeeping.
