All families should respect the rights of the elderly, said Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar last Sunday.
She made the comments while speaking at an event to mark International Day of Older Persons and Pinktober awareness.
“It is our duty to do so especially when older persons cannot take care of themselves,” she said.
“We must always remember that it is our moral obligation to treat our elderly family members with respect and dignity.
“We must never forget that the Government or an institution cannot provide the love and care that a family can provide.
“No service can ever replace the loving environment of a family home.
“We will continue to serve with compassion, respect, care and also provide services that give people better access to the resources they need and deserve to achieve a better quality of life for the vulnerable in Fijian communities.”
