HISTORY will judge Fiji as a leader in fighting climate change, says Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations, Youth and Sports Parveen Kumar.
He made the comments while speaking at pre-Fiji Day celebration for the residents of the Ba School for Special Education on Wednesday.
“Government has steered us on a path that they thought was best for this beloved nation of ours and they are continuing the useful work of building a transformed, inclusive and united Fiji,” he said.
“History will be the judge of our legacy that is on whether we were steadfast in our commitment to our purpose.
“History has judged as recently as July this year when the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) made a historic declaration highlighting that a clean and healthy environment is a universal human right.
“We are also doing our bit at the global level, last month, the Prime Minister as chair of the Pacific Islands Forum along with other Pacific leaders launched the 2050 Blue Pacific Strategy at the UN, outlining the region’s challenges, our opportunities and our aspirations as a region.
“We did this in the hope that our children and their children and their children after them would continue to enjoy the clean and healthy environment that was entrusted to us by our forebears to care for and to also pass on to generations to come.”
