The Fiji Bitter Namalata 7s tournament will be a first of its kind on Kadavu to empower grassroots talent through sports.

The event, which will be held at Namalata Central School ground on October 5-7, was launched yesterday at the Paradise Beverages Fiji headquarters in Walu Bay, Suva.

A total of 32 men, eight women and 16 youth teams are expected to take part.

Paradise Beverages Fiji general manager sales/corporate affairs Joe Rodan said this tournament would be a big boost to the communities surrounding Namalata because it would help motivate youths to come out and showcase their talents.

“This 7s tournaments is the pinnacle of scouting young players to be groomed and one day don the white jersey,” Rodan said.

“All national players come through the system, representing their clubs, proving their worth and making it to the national squad and we have witnessed that.

“We had sponsored seven sponsorship for this years, the first one was the Marist 7s, Nawaka 7s in Nadi, Malaka 7s in Rakiraki, Yalovata 7s in Ovalau then the Malomalo 7s in Sigatoka, the Savusavu 7s, Gaunavou 7s.

“We had the Labasa Service 7s and then we look forward to the Tabadamu 7s to be held in Nausori next week, then we have the Matasau 7s in Rakiraki, so as you can see we have tournaments all lined up.”
