The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has been supportive of the development of the sport in the region for many years.

The Davis Cup and Fed Cup are organised by the ITF in the world over in different groups for their Class B members.

Similarly in 2018, ITF introduced the Nations Cup Pacific for Class C members in the world by supporting the inaugural event in Lautoka, Fiji in conjunction with Oceania Tennis Federation (OTF).

OTF joint executive Richard Breen acknowledged ITF’s support the tournament.

“ITF gives support for this tournament through the OTF,” Breen said.

“We would like to acknowledge the work that joint OTF executive David Smith, who is a gold level international referee, has done.

“The ITF has provided an assistance budget for the region to be able to host this tournament which is to replicate the Davis Cup and the Billie Jean King Cup (Fed Cup) for us Class C members to be able host this event.

“Also without the support of the ITF, Fijian government, the Fiji National Sports Commission, the OTF, Tennis Fiji and Punjas Group from the private sector it would be hard to stage an event like this.”
