THE Northland Rugby Union will end its zonal competition with the combined challenge series at the Gatward Park in Korovou on Saturday.
The series will feature the teams from the Nasinu/Verata and Korovou zones.
Yavusa Nawaibuta trophy holder Natakali Rugby Club from Naiborebore village will take on the neighbouring young and energetic brigade from Naimasimasi at 1pm.
Champion Army will face the ferocity of the Uluinakau Club from Narere at 3pm for the Ratu Ravoka trophy.
Union secretary Tevita Kanalagi said the inception of the combined challenge fixtures was aimed at continuing the excitement at club level.
Kanalagi said they needed to build interest and maintain the momentum in the Northland rugby community at large.
“Northland needs to stamp its mark at the provincial level,” he said.
“The combined challenges would also make it more convenient and cost effective for our game officials who would be required to serve at one venue rather than travelling around.
“A special feature for the combined challenge series is to allow our panel of selectors comprising the club and union coaches and managers to scout around for untapped talents and potentials to prepare for the 2015 season.
“For clubs not featuring in the combined challenge series, the union will organise few 10s tournaments for scouting purposes.
“Fair zone representation in the provincial team for the 2015 season is a prime objective. Next week’s challengers would be announced at the conclusion of Saturday’s games.”
The surplus from the gate takings would be shared among the clubs from the two zones.
The winner will also receive $100 while the runner-up will get $50.
Ground admission for the combined challenge series are $3 for adults and $2 for children.
