Team Fiji swimming members Epeli Rabua, Taichi Vakasama, David Young, Cheyenne Rova have acclimatised to the conditions in England for the Commonwealth Games.

Vakasama and Cheyenne recently represented Fiji at The World Championship in Budapest, Hungary and travelled to Birmingham from there.

They were joined by David Young and Epeli Rabua.

Fiji swimming coach Rosemary Rova said the two boys, Hansel McCaig and Temafa Yalimaiwai, had just finished their examinations at the university which was a challenge juggling education and training at one time.

She said other squad members Rosemarie Rova and Kelera Mudunasoko, had also prepared well.

Rosemary said the aim was to get to the semi-finals. “Taichi and Cheyanne participated in the World Championship in Budapest recently and continued their journey to the United Kingdom,” she said.

“We are looking to get into the second round and the semi-finals. However the competition will be very tough.

“The only problem for us is travelling and then the competition will start in five days.

“The swimmers who are there have acclimatised to the conditions. “So, with the ones we are taking from Fiji, we need to talk about jet lag with the long travel.

“We have a 15-year-old swimmer (Mudunasoko) in the team, so I don’t know how she will feel after the long trip.

“It could be jet lag or nerves, but hopefully things turn out well.”
