Judges for the Domo Vou Talei song contest will today decide who the 10 finalists are after whittling away at the more than 120 entries received since the launch of the competition on May 24.
The judges — Laisa ‘Vude Queen’ Vulakoro, international singing sensation Soko Loga, legendary composer and artist Saimone Vuatalevu, renowned producer Tikiko “Tiks” Korocawiri, and musician and senior journalist Felix Chaudhary — had their work cut out for them over the past two days.
Vulakoro acknowledged the Australian High Commission for initiating the original song contest for unsigned artists, The Fiji Times for putting up the $5000 prize-money, and Westpac for the $3000 People’s Choice Award winner.
“From what we have heard so far, the diversity in the compositions — from rock to reggae, gospel and vude — there is an amazing array of talent, and we definitely need more competitions like Domo Vou Talei,” she said.
The judges will wrap up the shortlist today and the 10 finalists will be announced on Saturday, June 18.
The Fiji Times is a sponsor of Domo Vou Talei, along with the Australian High Commission, Westpac, Communications Fiji Ltd, Fiji Performing Rights Association and Knox Entertainment.
