I stand for true leadership. These were the words of new We Unite Fiji provisional candidate Dr Jone Hawea.

He said this while declaring his interest to contest in the 2022 General Election.

“It is both an honour and a privilege to have the blessings of a paramount chief of the vanua of Fiji to represent his vision and his strategies for the country,” Dr Hawea said.

“The reason I decided to respond to the Na Ka Levu’s (party leader) invitation was because, first and foremost, I respect freedom.

“I am choosing We Unite Fiji because it resonates with human rights, it resonates with the principles of democracy and it also resonates with freedom.”

He said Fiji was a free country and needed to be led by its people.

“To be led by military strategists is to be led by force.

“That is something that I stand against and I will continue to stand against.

“The events of the past few years have seen the ugly side of a country’s leadership where the elements that decide the way forward is led by force.”

He said through their party president Nadroga Navosa chief Ratu Tevita Makutu, they wanted to bring back the respect for human rights and democracy.

Dr Hawea is the first provisional candidate announced by the party.
