Men’s open singles top seed Junior Benjamin made a flying start in the Tattslotto Fiji Open Tennis Championship breezing through his match without dropping a game at the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club courts in Nadi. F

resh from victory at the Consumers Supermarket Easter Open Championship last month, the Solomon Islander downed Salmaan Asgar 6-0, 6-0.

He is also on track in the Men’s A doubles event pairing up with Romil Patel to defeat Kunal Datt/Sachin Reddy 8-4.

National rep to the upcoming Pacific Mini Games, Ruby Coffin won her women’s open singles quarter-final fixture. Coffin beat Alisha Kamran in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.

Tennis Fiji president Rajiv Singh said new winners will be crowned in most categories.

“Certainly there will be new winners in the open singles categories for both men and women because the defending champions are not here,” Singh said.

Thomas Perrin of France won the men’s open singles title in 2019. He also collected the mixed doubles title with Eleanor Schuster from Samoa and the men’s open doubles title with Nick Wiles from New Zealand.

Schuster won the women’s singles crown back then.
