Teams from the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) will be on the ground to inspect businesses for fuel hoarding which is against the law.

This has been confirmed by commission chief executive officer Joel Abraham in a statement yesterday.

He said companies and suppliers engaging in such practices would be charged and fined for breaching the FCCC Act.

He said that inspections conducted by his team found some fuel companies engaging in behaviour which could amount to hoarding, under the guise of technical difficulties.

“Hoarding is strictly against the law – action will be taken against any business or trader that engages in such unethical behaviour,” Mr Abraham said. He said teams were on the ground in all three major divisions carrying out inspections.

Mr Abraham said FCCC did not and could not control the factors that determine the prices of fuel products and LPG in international markets.

“However, our inspection teams will be out monitoring and inspecting our local markets for compliance purposes for domestic prices over the next few days.

“The public is urged to report instances of fuel hoarding to FCCC with photographs and other evidence directly through the FCCC web app at fccc.app.

You can also contact FCCC on 8921991 or through live chat at fccc.gov.fj.”
