Eleven-year-old Krishnita Rohini Kumar believes football can help accomplish her ambition to become a doctor in the future.
Kumar is one of the participants in the Fiji FA grassroots football development program at the Fiji FA Academy in Vatuwaqa.
Speaking to Fiji FA media, the Year 6 student of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Primary School said she wanted to play football so she could be mentally and physically fit.
“I have passion for football and I know through football I will achieve my goal to be a doctor and also a football player,” he said.
“My interest in football grew after watching my brothers playing and been an only girl in the house I joined them so I started playing with them when I was just 7 years old.
“I was so in love with football and always wanted to learn more and thanks to Fiji FA for visiting our school where we were told about the grassroots development program.
“I persuaded my parents so they allowed me to come and join the program and I am so proud that my parents are very supportive in my career as a footballer.
“Both my mum and dad always give me good advice and so my brothers who are also athletes. “My elder brother has joined referee and the other one is also taking part in the program with me.
“I really enjoy coming here for the program where I make lots of friends and also enjoy playing football.”
The daughter of Dharmesh and Sanjita Chand of Nasole, Nasinu aims to don the national jumper.
“I want to play for my country and make my parents proud,” she said.
“My dad is a police officer and he serves the nation so my aim also to play for my beloved country.
“One of the biggest lessons football has taught me is that, if you put your mind to it and work hard, you drastically increase your chances of success. It is a simple lesson.”
The Fiji FA grassroots football development program is held every Monday and Wednesday from 3.30pm to 5pm and Saturdays from 8.30 to 10am at Fiji FA Academy Ground in Vatuwaqa.
