Abbu Zahid’s brace of goals in the second-half for Rewa against Nadi during the 2022 Digicel Premier League at Nadroga’s Lawaqa Park yesterday cements the Delta Tigers’ position on top of the points table.
Rewa remains undefeated after five rounds.
Zahid scored both goals from inside the penalty box.
The southerners fielded an experienced line-up and played one-touch football in the 90-minute encounter.
The Jetsetters’ inability to score goals continued to haunt them as Sakaraia Naisua missed easy scoring opportunities.
Rewa coach Rodicks Singh commended the win.
“We knew our opponents were going to give us a tough match,” he said.
“We had to fight for the three points. It was a lackluster first half and I told the boys to change their mentality towards the match.
“They lifted their performance and we earned the three points.”
Policeman Zahid said it was a proud moment for him to score the two goals.
“I had been playing for Ba for so many years. I want to prove my worth for the Delta Tigers,” he said.
The teams were locked 0-0 at halftime.
