VIJAY Singh finished tied on tenth position at the Fiji International at the Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course yesterday.
He totaled two over par 290 after 72 holes.
Singh carded rounds of 73, 74, 70 and 73.
He scored one eagle, 15 birdies, 41 pars, 11 bogeys and four double bogeys.
The 51-year-old said he played well yesterday despite the strong winds.
He said it was great to see overwhelming support for him.
“I played well today (yesterday) and it turned out OK,” Singh said.
“It was nice to see so many people come out and watch me. My caddie was saying look at those people on the 18th hole. It was great to see them get into the game.
“It is the first tournament of this kind in Fiji and hopefully there will be many more and get a little more interest in golf instead of rugby and soccer. It is really nice to see them come out.”
Singh will now turn his focus to the FedEx Cup schedule and head back to the US.
“Hopefully we can get together and start building that academy I had initially planned here,” he said.
“There is another site for golf course here and when it will be built that one as well will give more opportunity for the kids to play golf.
“If there are more golf courses here then there will be more interest.
“The FedEx Cup starts next week and I will be in New York on Monday morning and look for a grueling week. I’m excited and learnt a lot from playing over here.
“My game picked up and I played well today though the wind picked up.
“I tried couple of things.”
Singh is ranked 80th in the FedExCup and has a world ranking of 193.
