Fiji football team head coach Flemming Serritslev is on a mission to start developing players from an early age.
He said developing players in their early years would help improve the standard of play in the Digicel-sp onsored team.
He said they had started to work on the process.
“There hasn’t been any talent development from the young age,” Serritslev said.
“It all starts when they are young, 16 years of age and that is far too late. “We must bring in our young children from the age of eight or even six to participate in competition.
We will have to go step by step by getting the under-14, U13, U12 and the minors and hopefully in three to four years-time we will see a big development in Fiji.
“At the end of the day it will benefit the national team because these young players will be fully developed once they reach the nationals.
“In the coming years for sure we don’t need to go looking for players, they are all in our development program.”
The former Denmark international and coach announced his 23 players who will play in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 preliminary competition.
“The players selected are all adapting to the playing philosophy that we are trying to make in Fiji Football.
“It means we want to play really a fast game, we are very careful about having good timing in our passes so we don’t delay the game. We want to have a team that really stands together, a team that can leave up to our identity as “Tabusoro” never giving up no matter how bad the situation is.”
Roy Krishna has been chosen to lead the team and he is assisted by Remueru Tekiate. The 24th player will be chosen after the second round of the DPL this weekend.
The players are: Beniamino Mateinaqara, Akuila Mateisuva, Mohammed Alam, Isikeli Sevanaia as goal keepers, Afraz Ali, Kishan Sami, Inoke Turagalailai, RemueruTekiate, Sitiveni Cavuilagi, Antonio Tuivuna, Lekima Gonerau and Edward Aaron as defenders, Asnil Raju, Anish Khem, Tevita Warainavalu, Patrick Joseph, Rahul Naresh, Setareki Hughes, Nabil Begg, Muni Naidu as mid fielders and Roy Krishna, Sairusi Nalaubu, Dave Radrigai.
